Ms Aisha Mahomed Ali has been appointed as Technology Transfer Manager at UWC Technology Transfer Office as of 1 June 2017. Aisha has an MSc in Microbiology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration. Her experience in product development at a private biotechnology start-up company and in the public sector innovation funding space makes her well placed to drive UWC technology transfer activities. Over the past three years, in the capacity of Technology Transfer Officer (Commercialisation) she has supported UWC researchers in securing TIA Seed Funding, assisted with project management and played an active role in the sourcing of follow-on funding. The Southern Africa Network for Bioscience (SANBio) is a NEPAD Agency Flagship for collaborative research, development and an innovation platform aimed at addressing Southern Africa’s challenges in health and nutrition. SANBio is currently being supported by the BioFISA II Programme - the second phase of a Finnish-Southern African Partnership (BioFISA) Programme meant to strengthen the NEPAD SANBio Network. BioFISA II started in April 2015 and will be implemented until February 2019. Funding under BioFISA II is aimed to support and strengthen biosciences research and development as well as human capacity development in the 12 Southern African Development Community (SADC) Member States (including South Africa) through the existing NEPAD SANBio Network.
